Chennai-based publisher and right-wing political commentator, Badri Seshadri, has been arrested by the Perambalur district police. The arrest was made based on a complaint from an advocate regarding Seshadri's distasteful remarks against the Chief Justice of India in relation to the violence in Manipur.

On July 22, he made statements during an interview with a YouTube channel. On Saturday, the Kunnam police apprehended Badri Seshadri at his Chennai home. He was then brought before the Kunnam judicial magistrate's court and detained until August 11. He is currently being held in the Trichy central prison.

According to Perambalur DSP C Shyamaladevi, an arrest was made after a complaint by advocate P Kaviyarasu of Kunnam. The advocate reported that the comments could exacerbate the unrest in Manipur.

Badri Seshadri has been accused of violating three sections of the Indian Penal Code - 153 (inciting riot), 153A (encouraging hostility between different groups), and 505(1)(b) (intent to create fear or alarm among the public).
